The Saturday Morning Post

We are here.....

And I'm interviewing my mother.....

1. What are the most surprising things to you?

-Friendliness of Egyptian people

-the fresh fruits and vegetables (including fresh mango, orange and strawberry juice this morning)

-the striking foot pain from the indescribably uneven walking surfaces and need to hustle or jump garbage piles or cross roads to divert from wild dogs or wild cars

-the church service/community/structure

-the smell and the fact that the smell is now normal to me and the family!

-the garbage and filth everywhere - don't even know how to put it

-the sound made by pigeons meeting their demise (sounds like babytalk "hewp, hewp")

2. What is your reaction to the weather?

-WOW! is it ever nice! - short sleeves, crop pants very nice!

-The sun is VERY intense, the shade and at dusk is brisk - but it just feels SO good

3. Have you gone more than 10 hrs without crying yet?

- Nope ;)

4. Any comments about your trip here?

- loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong

- when arriving in Frankfort, Germany, the gate number was incorrect on ticket. Went thru security for that gate....then barely made it back to correct gate and thru security again

- all-in-all a very good ride (edited to say attendants) stewards were very curtious, passengers were friendly, enjoyed visiting, very good food (chose chicken)

5. Please describe your first local banana....

-different taste, good delicious taste definitely different

-was smoother without the filmy after-banana taste

-highly recommend STRONGLY recommend

- Ooooooh and the straaaawberries (reminded her this is not a strawberry post)

6. Any highlights to mention thus far?

- the hike to the market on Street 7 -

*not only was there fruits and vegetables, fresh breads but pigeons LIVE PIGEONS, chickens, turkeys, goats, rabbits for butcher for sale - we witnessed such events did not partake in said events

*VERY INTENSE increase of a multitude of smells (said with concern)

*people selling products were very friendly - and very interested in foreigners being in the area

7.What do you think of your accomodations (I'm not sure she can be honest in this one)
-walked the surrounding area to meet homeschool friends as well as see Jasmine's school - impressed with Jasmine's teachers and the education received - friendliness and welcoming-ness of friends and the cleanliness at all the buildings and apartments themselves

-didn't know what to expect at apartment, it's actually a bit bigger than expected, sleeping very well even through the call to prayers at 4 am

-also about the apartment is about the big strap for the blinds on the outside (aka blast shields Betty knows what these are!) Melanie says these are also in Germany!

-enjoys the garden Waleed sustains for me upstairs and the poinsettia's he planted for her

and now for some photos!
decorating windows for WINTER

Grandma by the banana tree down the road

below is a pic from Joshua for his grandpas....

Before my mom came, we had a homeschool Christmas party! Complete with caroling!!

pics from my mom.....including her bunch of banans off the branch....

*SURPRISE* JASMINE IS READING! we saved a surprise for Grandma - I started the reading program with Jasmine 2+ weeks ago....Grandma gets to watch her blossom daily with reading!!

Joshua showing grandma the outline of photosynthesis (Sarah S, did I spell these correctly? lol), transpiration and explaining the job of chlorophyll and why leaves were hiding their colors ;)

At Jasmine's school

Interesting "gate: (notice gma in short sleeves Jasmine in tights and turtle neck)

a unique tree - and the "buckets" used for dirt, cement, etc - they carry on their shoulders or head, depending on preferences - it's leather

Love the interview, very funny and creative! Sounds like you are all having a great time. When you guys return you better come in summer so you have some time to adapt! It's snowing here today.
