Notes from Mom - at Wadi Degla

Thursday Jan 13th....

The kids played at a friends' house while us girls sat and just enjoyed more girl time. While they were gone, we ordered Egyptian food. Was it ever delicious and we had so many leftovers, we get a giant platter to the night boab (mohamed). We watched the Walton's while we stuffed our faces and moaned with delight.

Friday, Jan 14th.....

Rob took the kids and I to Wadi Degla. What a wonderful day! You could really visualize the flood God sent to cover the earth. We even found shells and petrified wood. Rob has bought a vehicle, so he drove us. The road through the Wadi (dried up river bed, "valley"). It was quite rugged.

There are so many trails through the Wadi. One trail leads to a very large beautiful building. It looked like you were coming to a castle. It would be a great place for a restaurant and maybe even a hotel. The view from the lookout area was breathtaking.

We left the building and drove. Trying to get down further to the end of one of the trails. Then we hiked down, down down. Rob was a big help to get me down and then back up. It was just beyond words at the majestic-ness of the crevaces and the layers of rock and the majestic view.

On our way into the Wadi, the stones and sand that overhung looked just like a lions face with mouth open a little. One even looked like a turtle's head.

We had a picnic lunch. It was amazing to see some plants growing.

While we were eating lunch, we had a text from Wendy that in Maadi they were getting a lot of rain. She was out getting groceries and got stuck in a store for about 30 min because of rain then took a taxi home.

We then heard very loud thunder but no rain in Wadi Degla. We did have rain half way back. The clouds were really beautiful. I took lots of pictures that Wendy will post below.

WHAT A GRAND DAY!

So amazing, would love to see it for myself! Love the rocks and canyons-nothing like it here in MI! Can't get over how clean the building looks, it's almost like it's a miniature you are looking at.
