School, Church, Mosque and Moon

These are the kids after art class yesterday. These were clay statues the teacher made last week, but from the idea of talking to them about the "nearly lost art" of Egypt. It is so similar to Mexican art, it's mind boggling! This is taken from the "sugar doll" which the mix is made from a sugar batter. Currently, the big selling/decorating time is during the feast of Mohamed Ali Pasha's birthday in Feb. I'll have to buy a couple of dolls then!

precious.......first day on the job at 10 mo! ha!!

Today was SOOOO much fun and INCREDIBLY interesting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We were not allowed to take photos inside, so this was as good as it got!

WE SAW TWINKIES BEING MADE! For my beloved lake girls, you KNOW how hilarious this was for me - and YES, while standing there, I pleaded in Arabic "just ONE photo of a fresh twinkie PLEASE?!" he giggled and said "not possible" I felt like one of the kids!!

From batter churning, to ALL the gobs of butter in the trays, to squirting the dough, to baking the dough, to injecting the cream, to dumping onto a conveyor, to being packaged and then boxed up!

TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTALLY AMAZING!

really REALLY outstanding! Our hosts were gracious and informative!

we had WARM FRESH croissants with fresh choc filling!!!

The facilities were stunning – clean, organized, friendly coworkers.

The guy on the far right as you look at the photo, is the head of quality control at Edita Foods. Our guide (the plant manager) didn't want to get in a photo with us...very sad....but he was really a super guide. He's never had kids this young come through!

The church is the "building" for the episcopal community which is next to the "tent" where we worship. The other afternoon, I walked in and saw the cross, the moon, the blue sky - REALLY seemed stunning, had to share the moment!

The mosque is one we saw on the way to the factory today. The factory is a city called 6th of October. This is due to the war when Egypt made a gutsy move and invaded Sinai Peninsula - due to intervention of the UN, this is also the first time any Arab country made peace with Isreal and vice versa. Not only did Egypt get the peninsula back, but they also started a new peace treaty with the US! Neat historical information I thought Sarah S in GR might enjoy....and some others too perhaps! The drive was 1.5 hrs there, 1 hr back....yep, we got a bit lost. The 16 passenger van worked out well-especially splitting the cost between 4 families. REALLY nice! Then our other homeschool friend who lives in 6 October, met us there. WHAT A GREAT DAY!

Thanks for looking!
