Just another day at the Wadi

**love** days at the Wadi! Been too hot for too long...now since Gpa Bob came, it's only been 75-80 degreees! even clouds and breezes that are cool, not stiffling!

He said about the 11 km drive thru the dried river bed to the "ancient waterfalls" (meaning they're not there anymore)....."only word to describe this road is NNNNNASTY. That's the only word to describe this road" ~Gpa Bob 2010

lol

About Cairo in general, he has said "I will never complain about the sand and dust at my place. Ever. To anyone."

ha!That's saying a lot, don't ya think Michel and Karen? ha!

The rock that has been formed first by the raging river then by the winds....

Gpa Bob and kids by one of the deep "whirlpools"

The bedrock is VERY difficult to climb around - especially whlie being aware not to disturb anything "living" (you know, like vipers)

Below is a MUCH easier climb.

the taxi from about half way up! ha!

we made it to the top! WOO HOO!!

There is one guy living/working here. He is on 3 days and off 4. He trades with one other guy. The facilities look very nice (Egyptian standards) but are not open. However, he was happy to let us wander and enjoy a nice picnic 'at the top'

Now we're about 1/4 of the way back down together. Oh the breeze was MARVELOUS today!

the "ancient" waterfalls area - burled bedrock AMAZING!!

can't you just "feel" the power of the raging river in this narrow gourge we climbed through and up?

Lastly....some phone shots of our dinner last night. Anas and his son Merwan picked us up and took us to their club. NOW THAT'S LIKE AMERICAN FANCY! WOWZERS!! This is the restaurant we ate in, I decided I could live on teHiina (an eggplant sauce for bread) and mummy fingers (see the pics? doesn't it look like mummy fingers?). They are actually grape vines wrapping rice. Apparently some Asian countries do this as well.
